Revealing Indonesian Plants Utilization and Culture at Bogor Ethnobotanical Museum

Ethnobotany means the science of plant utilization by the certain ethnic group for daily necessities. Built in 1982, Ethnobotanical Museum has purpose to preserve Indonesian flora and cultures, and to provide information on the subject of ethnobotany.

Ethnobotanical Museum is located on Jl. Ir. H. Juanda No. 24, Bogor, West Java. This museum has the collection of about 2000 ethnobotanical artifacts and various dioramas of plant utilization in serving basic necessity. Various traditional products made of plants from the whole Indonesia are kept inside this museum. The collection included food, clothing and housing materials, traditional medicines, household-wares, transportation utilities, agricultural processing equipments, fishery, musical instruments, rituality utilities, children toys, and traditional cosmetics. The Millions of Trees Tourism at Bogor Botanical Garden

Bogor Botanical Garden is one of the oldest botanical gardens in Asia. It is one of special features of Bogor City that never bore people to visit, because there’re so many interesting things they can get in this place. It can attract various visitors, such as teens, families, and foreign tourists.

The botanical garden was built in 1817 by its initiator Prof. Dr. Reinwardt, a botanical professor from Germany. The location is on Jl. Ir H. Juanda, Bogor City, Indonesia. There’re centers of knowledge around this botanical garden, namely Herbarium Bogoriense, Zoology Museum, and Bogor Institute of Agriculture. This 87 ha wide area has the collection of more than 17000 species of tropical flora, including the rare orchid plants. It contains the hundreds years old-trees, no wonder the trees in this area have the big trunks and tens meters of height. The trees consist of both domestic and foreign trees. Each tree was labeled by its name and the time of its planting, so the visitors can get additional botanical knowledge during the tour.

One of the main charms of Bogor Botanical garden is ‘corpse flower’ or (Amorphophallus titanum). It’s interesting to see the moment when this rare flower blooms. This flower is unique for its unusual big size and its habit of releasing the putrid odor when blossom. This flower is the largest compound flower of flora. It can reach 2 m in height.

This Museum stands up to give the awareness to society for the importance of art appreciation which is becoming go forward fast,in another side, this museum also to provide the space to all actors to be able to present their masterpiece so that can be enjoyed in general. this Museum Barli is opened by Minister of Tourism of Post and Telecommunications ( MENPARPOSTEL) on October 26, 1992.

This Museum is often used for some activities of artistic like  exhibition of painting design, masterpiece sale, discussion, informal discussion by various theme workshop, ceramic studio training and painting, and many various other activities.

With the existence of this museum we can see of artistic world growth of fine arts goodness, artistic painting as well as cultural art. This Museum is also used for saving and preserving the artistic creation utilize and to dig of values history as well as as sign of existence Barli in wrestling artistic world in Indonesia. We can visit to this Museum from Saturday up to Thursday from at 9 a.m until 5 p.m, so if you intend to come there just come arround that time!
