Turi Agrotourism: The Beautiful World of Salak Fruit

Turi Agrotourism (27 ha wide area) is the plantation complex of salak pondoh which is located at Kampung gadung, Bangunkerto Village, Turi, Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta. The plantation complex is combined with kid’s playground, fishing area, swimming pool, and facility for boating in the pond. Turi Agrotourism allows you to enjoy walking around the wide salak pondoh garden while picking the fruit yourself.
Salak pondoh name refers to salak fruit that has the white flesh and the sweet taste like “pondoh” or the leaf top of coconut which is still wrapped by the stem. In Turi Agrotourism area, the visitors can see this unique salak pondoh plants. The plant has the shape that resembles the upper part of oil palm tree, with a bit of fern motif. The fruit grows at the base of the palm, small-shaped, and has the chewy flesh which is not sticky-adhered to its seed. It is a beautiful view to see salak pondoh plants which is arranged in Turi Agrotourism area.
The location of Turi Agrotourism is 25 km from the north of the center of Yogyakarta City. It can be reached via Jl Palagan Tentara Pelajar or Jl Magelang. When entering Turi location, the visitors will see the rows of salak plants panorama after passing by the rice fields and citizenries’ gardens. While enjoying the fresh air in Turi Agrotourism area, the visitors can also visit another garden in this area, namely Kebun Nusantara. In this 2 ha wide area, the visitors can find 17 kinds of salak plants. Superior salak pondoh, yellow salak pondoh, black salak pondoh, condet salak pondoh, manggala salak, gaing salak, bali salak, semeru salak and tanonjaya salak can be found in this garden. Besides the fruit garden, there’s also medicinal plants which are also cultivated in this agrotourism area. The medicinal plants cultivated in this area are ginger, temulawak, blimbing wuluh, galingale, etc. Don’t worry about the wide of this area. The visitor will be accompanied by the guide.
Turi Agrotourism area offers a lovely picnic area. For the souvenirs, Turi Agrotourism cooperation provides various characteristic foods. One of them is salak crispy chips. It is made of salak pondoh through drying process.
