The Lake Toba, the Beauty in Various Viewpoints
It’s been long time that the Lake Toba has being the important tour destination in the North Sumatra. The beauty of Lake Toba has attracted many domestic and foreign tourists. It is one of the biggest lakes in the world. As in Indonesia, it’s the largest and the most popular. The wide is about 100×30 km2, where in the middle of this great lake is a volcanic island namely Samosir. The Lake was supposed to be formed at about 73.000-75.000 years ago when a great supervolcanic explosion occurred. As the result, a caldera was formed, and then it was filled by water and became a great lake. The formation of Samosir Island itself was caused by continuous pressure of unreleased magma.
The Lake Toba is located at 3 regencies, namely Simalungun, Parapat, and Ambarita Regencies, North Sumatra, Indonesia. The beauty of Lake Toba was so great and unforgettable. The lake was surrounded by the mountains. With the fresh and cool air, the visitors can enjoy a lovely moment when they see such a beautiful panorama, especially when enjoying a very beautiful sunset. It’s an unsatisfying visit without wading through this charming lake by speedboat or canoe. There’re a lot of speedboats and canoes rental at Parapat. The visitors can also enjoy swimming.
The Lake Toba has magical and cosmological value. It is believed as the residence of Namborru, the 7 goddesses, ancestors of Batak Tribe. The Batak society has to ask for their permission every time they want to perform traditional agenda around the lake. Some rituals must be done before the performance, for example such as in the Folk Party of the Lake Toba celebration which is held every year.
The lodges, hotels, restaurants and café facilities can be found easily around the location. To reach the location, the visitors can choose between 2 routes, via Medan-Parapat or via Medan-Brastagi.
The beautiful panorama of Lake Toba itself can be seen from various other tour locations around the lake. One of the alternative locations is Lumban Silintong Beach, where from the cafes along the beach, the great beauty of Lake Toba can be seen. Balige Port, Samosir Island, and the line of Barisan Hills can also be seen from here. The other locations are Tanjung Unta, Sipolha, Simarjarunjung, Tigaras, and Haranggaol. Besides being the good locations for watching the Lake Toba panorama, each location has its own interesting tour object facilities.
