Samosir Island: the Island of Landscape Beauty and Traditional Cultural Tourism
It could be said that Lake Toba and Samosir Island are one pack of tourism. It is imperfect if you visit the Lake Toba without visiting Samosir Island. Samosir Island is an island located on the middle of the Lake Toba in the North Sumatera, Indonesia. It became regency at Jan 2004 after being a part of Toba Samosir Regency.
Samosir Island is 700-1950 m above the sea level and encircled by the mountains. No wonder it has very cold air. It can be reached by crossing the Lake Toba via Ajibata or Brastagi. This small regency has the potential areas for natural, spiritual, agricultural, and cultural tourism besides Toba Lake water.
The beauty of Samosir Island will charm the visitors by its green mountains and fresh air. The visitors can walk around the Samosir Island using BeMo (Becak Motor)/motor pedicab or general vehicle. They can also fish at the side of Lake Toba, and visit the tour objects in this island.
The popular natural tour objects in Samosir Island are the Lake Sidihoni and the Lake Aek Natonang. They’re often called as ‘the lake above the lake’. A beautiful landscape which is presented by Tuk-Tuk Siadong area is often visited by domestic and foreign tourists. For the accommodation, this area provides hotels for the lodging facilites. Samosir Island also has the Aek Hangat (Hot Spring) located on the cauldron of Pusuk Buhit Mountain. The other locations are Tano Ponggol that connects Samosir Island and Sumatra Island, and the Lagundi Beach which is located along the eastern coast of Samosir Island. The white sand of the beach is suitable for camping ground. A soaring minaret called as Pandang Tele Minaret is located on the mountain area at the other side of the Island. This minaret allows the visitors to see the whole Samosir Island.
A historical tour object in Samosir Island is located at the complex of Raja Sidabutar’s grave in Tomok Village. The age of the grave is hundreds years old. There’s also Simanindo, a location of Batak village that has a museum of the antique and historical objects.
There’s cultural tour object at Sianjur Mulamula Village, the first village of Batak society which is located on Pusuk Buhit district. The village has a cultural sanctuary namely the miniature of Rumah Si Raja Batak. There’s also the semi traditional house building of Batak in this village. Wow, looks lovely. We don’t hear too much about Indonesia so thanks for spreading the word. From what I’ve heard to, it’s not a very expensive place to travel.
